Start your day with an immersive journey through the Évora region, exploring some of Portugal’s most remarkable megalithic monuments. We begin at the Portela dos Mogos Cromlech, an impressive prehistoric site with a fascinating arrangement of standing stones, where your guide will provide a clear introduction to its origins, purpose, and importance in Alentejo prehistory.

Next, visit the Anta do Pinheiro Grande, a Neolithic dolmen that reflects the ancient funerary traditions of the region. The tour continues to the Great Dolmen of Zambujeiro, one of the largest burial structures in the Iberian Peninsula. Please note that to reach this monument it is necessary to walk approximately 950 metres along a rural path, making a total of about 1,900 metres on foot for the round trip. Here, you will learn about the construction techniques and the cultural meaning behind this monumental stone architecture.

Afterwards, we head to the iconic Almendres Cromlech, one of the largest and most significant megalithic complexes in Europe, consisting of more than 90 stones arranged in circular formations. This stop allows you to appreciate the scale and mystery of these ancestral landscapes.

Break for a delicious lunch at a traditional restaurant in the historic town of Montemor-o-Novo, where you can savour authentic Alentejo and Portuguese cuisine prepared with local ingredients.

Following lunch, explore the interpretive centre of Santiago do Escoural and then descend into the extraordinary Escoural Caves, known for their prehistoric paintings and engravings that offer a glimpse into early human artistry and habitation.

After visiting both natural and archaeological treasures, relax on the return trip to the pick-up point, enjoying the rolling plains and rhythm of real Alentejo. This comprehensive tour provides a unique opportunity to connect with Portugal’s rich prehistoric heritage, combining stunning scenery with historical and cultural exploration.
